In this juicy, turn-based rhythm game, play as soldiers known as CodeBreakers whose job is to squash bugs in the CyberSpace! Fight in the beat of the music, and strategize how to exterminate these nasty pests in CodeBreakers!

Turn-Based combat combined with Rhythm

CodeBreakers is a turn-based roleplaying game where the player controls 3 soldiers as they enter the cyberworld to destroy bugs… “Literally”.

This project was made during the Git Game Off 2021 game jam where you had one month to create a game based on the theme of the jam. This year’s theme was ‘Bug’ and we were allowed to interpret it any way we wanted to.

During This Game Jam, I worked with one other person to create a fun and juicy turn-based combat game with a rhythmic twist! During this project I was in charge of:

Audio:

  • Using Wwise to implement audio into the game as well as creating smooth transitions between different segments of music.

  • Creating punchy 8 Bit sound effects to give feedback for when the player hits a note successfully.

  • Using Ableton 10 to Compose and Mix a soundtrack that matched the juicy pixel art style of the game.

I used a music switch container in Wwise to smoothly transition between different songs in the game.

Art / UI:

  • Sketching and Designing the User interface in Adobe Illustrator.

  • Drawing and animating the 2D sprites and visual effects in Aseprite.

  • Implementing animations into Unity’s animator.

How I started with Drawing the character Vanguard!

Code:

  • Helping Convert Wwise music data to code that could be used to create rhythms for the player to follow.

  • Coding juicy visual effects and animations into Unity
